Sunday Morning Programs

Our Sunday morning programs alternate weekly between a guest speaker and one of our Community Days, which are designed to foster community engagement and social action. We’ll welcome a live audience in our auditorium, and also continue livestreaming our guest speakers to our YouTube channel. The Community Days will be in-person only.

“Finding Permanent Solutions to the Growing Homelessness Crisis”

Homelessness has risen to record levels in the United States, with Chicago and Illinois part of that trend. Advocates estimate more than 68,000 people in Chicago are unhoused. Doug Fraser, executive director of Chicago Help Initiative, a nonprofit that serves the unhoused, will discuss workable strategies to prevent homelessness. He’ll also discuss the “Bring Chicago Home” referendum on the March 19 ballot, as well as how the migrant crisis has impacted the situation for the city’s unhoused.

Our Community Days are programs designed to bring us together to learn, grow, and volunteer. They are open to the public, in-person only, and will not be livestreamed.

Community Day: Spring Cleanup

Spring is right around the corner, and it’s time once again to tidy up our spaces, inside and out. Join us for this working Community Day, when we’ll clean up our garden and grounds, and organize some of our indoor storage. Our Building Committee will have a list of tasks for all ages. Dress for the weather!

There will be no Sunday program on March 31.

Community Day: Ethical Dilemmas Discussion

Led by EHS member Carie Ost, we will consider several potential situations which pose a difficult choice, either of which may mean violating one’s sense of right and wrong. We’ll break into small groups to examine how we might respond, and then share our answers.

While we welcome an open and respectful discussion about all topics of interest to Humanists and beyond,
the views of our speakers do not necessarily represent those of the Ethical Humanist Society of Chicago.
